Hetta

Did you know that Enontekiö is located in the northwestern arm of Finland, was founded in 1877. Enontekiö has Sweden and Norway as its neighbouring countries and it is part of the Sámi Homeland area. Enontekiö is home to 1999  inhabitants, approx. 8 % of the population speaks Sámi language as their mother tongue, has over 60 % of Finland’s fells and all of Finland’s peaks rising to excess of 1,000 metres; there are over 20 of them. There is about 20 000 reindeer and is home to the arctic fox, the wolverine, the lemming, the willow grouse and the rock ptarmigan. Enontekiö has managed to keep all its rivers in their natural state, there is clean air and peaceful nature and still has a lot of heritage culture and villages.

Hetta is an age-old Sámi dwelling place, where the traditional culture is still very much alive. Hetta, the centre of the Municipality of Enontekiö, lies in the Lake Ounasjärvi beat against the Arctic earth and the fells meet the tundra. Hetta is a mixture of Sámi and Finnish.
