In 1673 Finns began migrating to the north and settled on the banks of the River Kemijoki and River Kitinen. We will visit some of these historical villages (such as Pyhäjärvi, Suvanto, Kairala and Pelkosenniemi).
During the visit to Pelkosenniemi you will hear how the Finns were received by the Samís as these parts were regarded as Samí territory.
In the middle of tour we will have coffee break and then take you to Pelkosenniemi where you will learn about ”The Battle of Pelkosenniemi” during the Winter War 1939. It is one of the most important battles in Lappish history.
After the break we continue to an old wooden church and to the village of Pyhäjärvi, where the views to the national park are exceptionally good.
