Thermal clothing is included in all of our safaris, unless otherwise mentioned. The thermal clothing include warm overalls, boots and woollen socks, gloves, scarves and hats. For snowmobiling we also provide helmets and balaclavas.

Yes you can. We rent out winter clothing sets based on availability. You can rent winter equipment directly online from our rental store.

Since the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and don’t have timetables, we can never guarantee that they will be visible. We always carry on with the safaris regardless of the weather, since it can change very fast here in Lapland. We do not refund the safaris, even if the Northern Lights are not visible.

Children are welcome to join our snowmobile safaris unless otherwise mentioned. They will be travelling in a sledge pulled by our guides snowmobile. Children over 140cm tall can sit on the back of the snowmobile as passengers, when they pay the adult price for the safari.

This depends on the length of the excursion. For safety reasons, the local staff will make the final decision on where children can travel most safely.

At the Rovaniemi husky kennel, children generally travel in large sleds driven by a guide. During 10 km husky rides, adults ride in pairs in separate sleds, while children travel together in a large sled driven by a professional musher. On family safaris (2–4 km), the entire family can ride in the same sled.

At the husky kennels in Luosto, Saariselkä, and Levi-Ylläs, children travel in the same sled as their parents.

Children aged 4-14 years are entitled to a 25% discount during the period of 1st Dec – 7th Jan and 50% during other times. Children under 4 years old participate free of charge. Please note that different prices apply to husky and reindeer safaris.

Even though teenagers 15-17 years old are considered as adults, they are not allowed to drive snowmobiles or are required to sign the commitment form.

According to Finnish law you are allowed to drive a snowmobile if you have a valid driving license with a classification of minimum T, A1, A or B. Generally, this means that you need to be over 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license to drive a car or a motorcycle. The information in a foreign driving license must be written in the Latin alphabet and indicate the right to drive or there must be a translation of the information by a reliable party, such as an authorized translator, into Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, English, German or French. Please note! Take the driving license with you on the snowmobile safaris as the police may check the validity of the license during the safari.

Programs are generally carried out regardless of the weather conditions. We highly recommend dressing in layers for warmth and comfort.

Cold Weather Guidelines:

If temperatures drop below -20°C:

• Children (2–14 years old) will be transported by car during snowmobile programs if possible, for safety reasons.

• Young children (0–2 years old) will not be allowed to participate in activities for safety reasons.

If temperatures drop below -30°C:

• Children (0–14 years old) will not be permitted to join reindeer and husky sled rides for safety reasons. However, short rides (jengas) may still be possible.

• For longer reindeer and husky rides, the driving time may be divided into shorter sections for safety.

If temperatures drop below -40°C:

• We will attempt to reschedule booked excursions, as extreme cold poses safety risks for both participants and animals.

The driver of the snowmobile is held liable for damage caused to the vehicle. The maximum personal liability is 980€ per person / snowmobile / accident.

The self-liability waiver reduces the maximum self-liability from 980€ to 150€. The self-liability waiver costs 20€ per driver and per safari and can be bought at our webstore for all our snowmobile safaris, or on the spot before the safari. The self-liability waiver is personal.

Snowmobile and husky sled programs are not suitable for pregnant individuals due to the bumps and vibrations on uneven trails, as well as exposure to snowmobile exhaust fumes. To avoid any potential pregnancy complications, we recommend choosing an alternative excursion instead.

Yes, persons with reduced mobility can participate in our excursions. However, as each location has a unique environment, we recommend contacting our customer service in advance to inform us of any mobility limitations. This way, we can suggest the most suitable excursions for your needs.

The prices for snowmobile safaris are always listed per person, even if two people share a snowmobile.

If you wish to drive a snowmobile alone, you can do so by paying an additional fee. This personal supplement will be added to the total price of the safari. You can purchase this option through our online store.

On our husky safaris, each sled is always shared by a driver (musher) and a passenger, with a suitable number of sled dogs depending on the weather conditions and terrain.

In the middle of winter in Lapland the sun can only be seen for a couple of hours during the day. Have a look at the article titled Hours of Daylight in Lapland on our website.

We encourage you to take part on our excursions in the dark time of the day too. The wintry forests are mystical in the dusk and dark.

The winter season starts on December 1st and lasts until mid-April. Please note that before December and after April, there is usually not enough snow for snowmobiling, husky sledding, or reindeer sleigh rides.

Programs for spring, summer, and autumn are available in Rovaniemi, Levi, Ylläs, and Saariselkä from May 1st to November 30th (with some variations depending on the location). You can find detailed program descriptions under Professionals > Brochures.

For certain accommodations located further away, we provide pickup service at a pre-arranged time. The exact meeting point and time will be confirmed upon booking.

Our Safari Clubs are centrally located within walking distance from most accommodations. In these cases, the meeting point will be the Lapland Safaris office.

The reindeer and husky farms don’t allow walk-in visits. You can only visit these farms by joining our safaris. On our safaris we will transfer you to the farms as a group due to organizational reasons.

Please make sure to arrive on time at the designated meeting point. Late arrival may result in being denied participation in the program without a refund.
